Money Advisor

Bedford (Hybrid)

£36,000 per annum including car allowance

Full time (37 hours per week)

Monday - Friday 9.00am - 5.00pm (Some flexibility available)

We are currently seeking for a Money Adviser to provide benefit and debt advice, information, and guidance to bpha residents to help them avoid financial difficulties and maximise their incomes.

Empathic and proactive in your approach you will target residents at high risk of financial difficulties in order to sustain tenancies and prevent homelessness.

You will be required to work from home and from our head office in Bedford, and on occasion visit residents. It is essential to hold a current driving and vehicle for this purpose.

What you will be doing:

  • Understand the financial needs of our customers and the organisation.

  • Raise awareness of financial capability and guide customers to make better financial decisions.

  • Develop and implement strategies to maximise a customer’s income including the take-up of welfare benefits and/or debt and employment advice.

  • Manage a personal caseload of Debt & Benefit issues for bpha’s residents and provide casework support to appropriate colleagues.

  • Effectively advise, support, and guide customers in a timely, empathetic manner in order to reduce debt and the negative impact on the customer.

  • Research any legal challenge to negative benefit decisions.

  • Collate and prepare evidence in order to provide representation for tenants in court and at welfare benefit tribunals

We’d love to meet someone with:

  • Confident communication skills with the ability to manage a high and varied workload.

  • Up to date knowledge of benefit and/or debt legislation.

  • Customer focussed experience of giving welfare advice in a commercial environment.

  • Experience of case management.

  • NVQ Level 4 (or above) in Advice and Guidance.

  • Empathic and understanding nature.

  • Experience of working in an Advice service.
