Legal Manager / In-House Lawyer (Litigation)

We are currently looking for a Legal Manager to provide support to the Director of Governance and Legal. The role will focus on the management of a caseload of disrepair cases, as well as coordinating internal and external legal resources and supporting compliance with our legislative and regulatory requirements.

The role

  • Set up and review processes for the management of disrepair cases, ensuring these reflect pre-action protocols and are aligned with other areas of the business.

  • Consider opportunities to in-source disrepair cases once proceedings have been issued - taking account of resource and risk levels; liaise with the business and external lawyers as appropriate to ensure that all deadlines are met.

  • Taking the lead in managing the department legal budget, ensuring value for money, ensuring the organisation has up to date information on fixed and variable costs, reviewing reports on WIP and monitoring organisational spend.

  • Maintain a register of legal advice to ensure that advice is not taken more often than needed.

  • Ensure there is a legal register in place with has an up-to-date record or the statutory and regulatory requirements with which the Group has to comply

  • Undertake research and keep up to date with changes to ensure that new legislation is is highlighted to the business

  • Look for ways to reduce dependence on the legal panel by setting up systems and processes to take matters in-house where skills and resources permit,

  • Provides legal advice and support to the business as require

The requirements:

  • Qualified solicitor, barrister or legal executive in England and Wales or other relevant jurisdiction

  • At least 3 years relevant legal experience including significant exposure to litigation.

  • Ideally with experience of managing disrepair cases

  • Professional and proactive, with the ability to work collaboratively and influence across the business

  • Although the role has no line management responsibility there is the need to manage workloads for others to achieve resolutions.
