Role: Service Design Lead
Location: East of England, Hybrid Working (minimum 1 day a week in the office)
Duration: 6 months minimum
Day rate: £550-600 per day (Outside IR35)
Experienced Service Design or Associate Director Lead sought for a public sector organisation based in the East of England, on an interim basis to assist the organisation through an exciting period of change to an area within the business starting its change journey. The candidate will be experienced in service design reviews, improving service delivery for Local Authorities and delivering a wide range of improvements simultaneously. You will work closely with the senior management team and the chief executive throughout the contract.
You will be responsible for driving the delivery of significant savings through designing more streamlined and effective services within the allocated service areas.
The Service Design Lead will be responsible for:
- Leading on the development of Service Design Business Cases for allocated services.
- Leading service redesigns for allocated services reviewing processes, systems resources and supporting transition activity.
- Developing and utilising effective service redesign methodologies.
- Gathering, analysing and interpreting information to support service redesign recommendations through interviews, document analysis, workshops and business process mapping.
- Reviewing data sets, process mapping, processing the data and conducting capacity demand analysis. Liaising with different service teams and stakeholders to capture and record current work and future practices in that area
- Driving and supporting service areas on improvements and efficiencies to inform plans.
- Reviewing the cost analysis of specified council services.
- Interpreting council business needs and translating these into service delivery models.
Essential Skills for the Service Design Lead the role:
- Leading organisational and service area redesigns in a local authority setting.
- Creating appropriate service design methodologies, such as capacity and demand analysis.
- Co-designing and facilitating workshops, managing stakeholder relationships across different levels and able to articulate complex design concepts.
- Analysing findings and using those to inform the design and improvement of services.
- Communicating and sharing design solution to meet policy and business objectives.
- Capturing "As is" process and converting into service improvements.
- Engaging, influencing and gaining value buy-in with senior managers and stakeholders.
- Being a team player with the ability to work under pressure to tight project deadlines.
- Successful project delivery and a practical approach to problem solving, including readiness to pitch in and get the job done.
- Managing large and complex projects in a local authority setting.

Experience of carrying out successful service redesigns in:
- Procurement & Commissioning service
- Analytics, Insight & Performance service
- Adults' Services
- Children's Services.
