Dunbar Education is seeking to appoint a Higher-Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) with SEN experience to start in September to work in a local SEND school based near Bedford. This is an ideal opportunity for a newly qualified or more experienced practitioner looking to work in a friendly and supportive specialist setting.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support class teachers in delivering high-quality lessons and assist in planning and preparing learning activities.
  • Provide one-on-one and small group support to pupils with special educational needs (SEN), adapting teaching methods to individual learning styles.
  • Cover classes in the absence of the teacher as needed.
  • Assist in implementing specialized education plans and strategies for SEN pupils.
  • Foster a positive, inclusive learning environment where all pupils feel supported and valued.
  • Collaborate with SENCOs and school staff to develop and implement personalized learning goals and interventions.
  • Monitor pupil progress and behaviour, providing feedback to teachers and caregivers as necessary.
  • Assist with sensory integration techniques and other therapeutic interventions as required.

Requirements:

  • Previous experience working with individuals with special educational needs, preferably within a school setting.
  • A genuine passion for supporting the academic and social development of pupils with SEN.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with pupils, colleagues, and caregivers.
  • Patience, empathy, and resilience when faced with challenging situations.
  • Relevant qualifications such as a Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification or equivalent would be advantageous but not essential.
