As a PMLD Learning Support Assistant, You Will:

  • Provide tailored one-on-one and small group support for students with PMLD, helping to foster their independence and personal development.
  • Work closely with teachers and other professionals to create and implement individualised education plans (IEPs) to meet the specific needs of each student.
  • Assist with personal care tasks such as feeding, mobility, and hygiene, ensuring comfort, dignity, and safety at all times.
  • Promote an inclusive, positive learning environment that encourages student engagement and progress.
  • Collaborate with the SEN team to monitor and adapt teaching strategies to support each student's learning journey.
  • Utilize specialized equipment to ensure accessibility and aid in the students' learning experiences.
  • Build strong, positive relationships with parents, carers, and external professionals to provide holistic support for students.

What We're Looking For:

  • Proven experience working with students with PMLD in an educational setting.
  • A compassionate, patient, and empathetic approach to supporting young people with complex needs.
  • Familiarity with communication tools such as Makaton, PECS, or similar (desirable).
  • A good understanding of the SEN Code of Practice and safeguarding guidelines.
  • Relevant qualifications (e.g., Level 3 Supporting Teaching and Learning or an equivalent SEN-related qualification).
  • Strong teamwork, communication, and interpersonal skills, with a passion for creating an inclusive learning environment.
