Learning Support Assistant - Specialist Through School in Leeds

Veritas Education is excited to partner with a Specialist Through School in Leeds to recruit dedicated, resilient, and experienced Learning Support Assistants for a range of roles starting after February half term. This is an excellent opportunity to make a difference in the lives of students with a variety of learning needs, supporting them in their educational journey.

About the Role: The school caters to students with a wide range of learning needs, including moderate and severe learning difficulties, complex and multiple learning needs, as well as Asperger's and Autism. Some students also have additional needs such as physical, medical, speech and language, visual, hearing, or sensory impairments. As part of the team, you will have the opportunity to work across a diverse and dynamic environment, supporting students with varying needs to reach their full potential.

There are also mainstream partnership sites, both primary and secondary, where you may have the chance to work, allowing you to gain varied experience in different educational settings.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide one-on-one and small group support to students with diverse learning needs.
  • Assist with classroom management and create a positive learning environment.
  • Support students in developing their independence, social skills, and academic abilities.
  • Work closely with teachers to help tailor learning to each student's needs.
  • Support students in mainstream partnership schools, as needed.

Ideal Candidate:

  • Experience working with students with special educational needs (SEN) is preferred, though we are keen to hear from individuals from sporting or care backgrounds, as there are many transferable skills.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work well in a team.
  • Resilient, patient, and empathetic, with a genuine desire to support students to succeed.
  • Flexible and adaptable to meet the varied needs of students.
  • Ability to work in both one-on-one and group settings.

Contract and Salary:

  • Full-time and part-time opportunities available.
  • Pay is negotiable based on experience.
  • The role will begin as a temporary contract, with the potential for a permanent position after a period of time.

Requirements:

  • Eligible to work in the UK.
  • Enhanced DBS check (or willingness to apply for one).
  • Valid references from recent employers.
