Financial Controller (Statutory Reporting) | Belper |£70,000 - £80,000

The client is a dynamic and growing business based in Belper, seeking an experienced and technically proficient Financial Controller with strong expertise in statutory reporting. As a key member of the finance team, who will oversee the financial control and reporting activities of the company, ensuring all statutory requirements and internal financial reporting standards are met.

As the Financial Controller, your key duties will include:

Statutory Financial Reporting:

    • Prepare and submit accurate and timely statutory financial statements in compliance with UK GAAP, IFRS, or FRS 102, ensuring all disclosures are included.
    • Lead the annual audit process, liaising with external auditors and addressing all audit queries to ensure smooth completion.
    • Responsible for the preparation of year-end statutory accounts for multiple entities.
    • Oversee the preparation of the Group's consolidated financial statements and ensure compliance with relevant reporting standards.
    • Ensure accurate VAT, tax filings, and other regulatory submissions are completed in a timely manner.

Management Reporting:

    • Review monthly, quarterly, and annual management accounts, providing insightful commentary to senior management regarding financial performance, variances, and trends.
    • Manage and produce key financial reports such as P&L, balance sheet, cash flow statements, and forecasts for internal stakeholders.
    • Ensure that financial systems and procedures are designed to deliver accurate and timely reporting.

Technical Accounting:

    • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of financial accounting standards (e.g., IFRS, UK GAAP, FRS 102), implementing any necessary changes to accounting practices or processes.
    • Lead on technical accounting matters including capitalisation policies, accounting for leases, intercompany transactions, and deferred tax.
    • Prepare complex reconciliations for balance sheet accounts, ensuring all balances are accurately reported.

Budgeting and Forecasting:

    • Assist in the preparation and review of annual budgets and forecasts.
    • Work with business partners to develop financial forecasts and track performance against budget, identifying areas of improvement or concern.

Internal Controls and Compliance:

    • Ensure robust internal financial controls and processes are in place, maintaining accuracy and compliance with company policies and statutory requirements.
    • Review and ensure that all accounting processes are efficient, standardised, and compliant with legislation.
    • Perform financial risk assessments and ensure the company's exposure to financial risks is minimised.
