We are looking to recruit a LSA (Learning Support Assistant) for a college in the Royal Borough of Bexley this Long-term Ongoing contract is set to start immediately.

About the Role of a LSA

As an LSA in our Post-16 college setting, you will work with students aged 16+ who require additional support to engage fully in their studies and campus life. This role offers a rewarding opportunity to make a meaningful impact by helping young adults build confidence, develop independence, and achieve their goals. You will work alongside teachers, SEN professionals, and the wider support team to provide tailored assistance, supporting both in-class learning and life skills development.

Key Responsibilities as a LSA
  • Student Support: Provide 1:1 and small group support to students with varying educational needs, helping them access the curriculum and achieve their learning objectives.
  • Life Skills Development: Assist in promoting independent skills such as organization, study skills, communication, and time management.
  • Positive Environment: Foster an inclusive, respectful, and motivating learning environment for all students.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with teaching staff, SEN coordinators, and other team members to develop and implement effective support strategies.
  • Progress Monitoring: Track and report on student progress, behaviour, and engagement, contributing to individual support plans.
About You

We are looking for a proactive and caring individual with experience supporting young adults in an educational setting. Key qualities and skills include:

  • Experience: Prior experience working with students aged 16+ in an educational or similar setting. Experience with additional needs and SEN is highly desirable.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent communication skills for engaging with students, staff, and families effectively.
  • Empathy and Patience: A supportive and understanding approach to working with young adults from diverse backgrounds and abilities.
  • Organisational Skills: Ability to assist students in building organizational and study skills essential for post-16 success.
Qualifications and Experience
  • Experience as an LSA, Mentor, or Teaching Assistant, ideally within a post-16 or secondary setting.
  • A relevant qualification in education, SEN, or youth work is advantageous but not essential.
  • Strong understanding of safeguarding and the responsibilities associated with supporting young adults.
