Shorterm Group is currently looking to recruit a Principal/Lead Piping Engineer on behalf of their client based in Teesside.

This is a long term contract role (outside IR35).

The Role
Our client is seeking an experienced Principal/Lead Piping/Mechanical Engineer to join their dynamic piping team.

The successful candidate will be responsible for manging piping engineering projects, ensuring technical accuracy, compliance with industry standards, and successful project execution.

This role requires a deep understanding of piping design, materials, plant layout, codes/standards along with the ability to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams.

Qualifications and Experience

Education:
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field is advantageous but not essential.

Experience:
Minimum of 10 years of experience in piping engineering, preferably within an EPC company, or as an Operator/Client Engineer.
Proven experience in managing large-scale projects and leading engineering teams.
Experience of high hazard and COMAH facilities is essential.

Technical Skills:
Familiarity with process facilities, plant and equipment layout, for both brownfield and greenfield applications.
Lead the selection and specification of piping materials, valves, and equipment for different process conditions.
Ability to constructively participate in risk management system sessions (e.g., HAZID, HAZOP).
Conduct and lead Design and Model reviews at all stages of design.
Knowledge of COMAH underlying regulations, benchmark standards and relevant good practice is essential.
In-depth knowledge of industry standards, including ASME B31.1/B31.3, API Standards, ASTM, ISO/ANSI is mandatory.
Understanding of regulatory compliance and RGP for safety and environmental standards is essential.

Certifications:
Chartered Engineer (CEng) status preferred.
