About the Role

We are recruiting for a Head of Engineering to lead the strategic and operational running of the Engineering Department. The successful candidate will oversee the team and drive improvements in efficiencies, safety, and quality while ensuring the site’s machinery and equipment are maintained to the highest standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the Engineering Department: Oversee operations, making sure that everything runs smoothly, and identify areas where improvements can be made.
  • Manage a skilled team: Inspire and guide a team of engineers, managers, planners, and technicians to work effectively and reach their full potential.
  • Solve mechanical and electrical issues: Quickly identify and fix breakdowns, investigating the root causes to prevent them from happening again.
  • Oversee key projects: Manage installations, upgrades, and new machinery, ensuring projects are completed on time, within budget, and to the highest standard.
  • Implement preventative maintenance: Set up and manage a factory-wide system to ensure regular maintenance and keep the machinery in excellent condition.
  • Drive energy efficiency: Identify ways to reduce energy usage across the site and implement measures that contribute to cost savings.
  • Manage budgets: Keep maintenance and repair budgets on track, ensuring value for money while maintaining equipment performance.
  • Ensure compliance: Make sure that all engineering activities meet food safety, health and safety, and environmental standards.
  • Monitor performance: Use KPIs and performance data to make informed decisions, identifying areas where the business can improve.
  • Collaborate with other departments: Work alongside different teams to ensure engineering goals align with the broader business strategy.
  • Manage third-party contractors: Oversee contractors working on-site, ensuring their work meets the company's standards and supports operational goals.

Qualifications

  • Degree level or equivalent in a relevant field.
  • Proven experience leading an engineering team within a manufacturing or processing environment.
  • Strong knowledge of mechanical and electrical systems and plant equipment.
  • Excellent problem solving skills and the ability to work under pressure.
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to manage budgets, people, and projects effectively.
