Do you thrive in a hands-on finance role where you can drive operational excellence and support commercial decision-making? Are you looking to be part of a fast-growing subsidiary within a dynamic Group of companies?

If so, we are exclusively recruiting a Finance Controller for a recently acquired business located on the west side of Birmingham. This is an exciting opportunity to take full financial control of the subsidiary, contribute to operational and commercial decision-making, and work closely with the Board in the strategic direction of the business.

This role is pivotal in ensuring financial stability, growth, and efficiency within the business. You will work closely with senior leadership and operational teams to improve financial performance and processes.

Your Key Responsibilities as a Finance Controller:

  • Financial Control Oversee and ensure the accuracy of all ledgers (sales, purchase, nominal), payroll, and HR administration;
  • Management Reporting Deliver timely and accurate monthly management accounts, board reports, and weekly financials;
  • Cash Flow Management Oversee weekly cash-flow forecasts and monthly working capital management;
  • Operational Excellence Collaborate with operational managers to enhance financial control, develop KPI reporting, and drive operational excellence. Provide insights on project costs and expense drivers, ensuring cost efficiencies;
  • Process Improvement Contribute to best practices for financial control and implement and develop finance systems;
  • Budgeting & Forecasting Lead the annual budgeting process and forecasting, ensuring alignment with strategic objectives;
  • Compliance & External Relations Manage year-end processes, audits and VAT submissions;
  • Leadership Develop and mentor a small finance team, fostering a high-performance culture;
  • Initiatives Work alongside Directors on commercial and strategic projects to drive business success.

Ideally you will be:

  • Qualified Accountant (ACCA, CIMA, ACA) or qualified by experience;
  • Experience as a Finance Controller, Finance Manager, or senior Accountant in an SME or subsidiary within a Group, ideally as number one;
  • Industry background in manufacturing, contracting, or project accounting preferred;
  • Strong financial control and commercial acumen;
  • Advanced Excel skills and experience with ERP systems;
  • Proactive, hands-on, and results-driven with a continuous improvement mindset;
  • Excellent stakeholder management and leadership skills;
  • Ability to communicate effectively, challenge, influence and drive change.
