Credit Control Team Leader  

Location: B3 2TA 

Salary: £35,000 - £38,000 

Purpose of Role: 

We are looking to appoint a Credit Control Team Leader to enable the continued development and maximisation of performance of the credit control department. 

The purpose of this role is to meet defined targets and deliver continuous improvements in performance and quality. 

The role will be required to achieve performance targets set by the Finance Manager and CFO. This will involve ensuring regular performance reviews are conducted and that controls and measures are implemented to monitor and measure progress against the set targets for both the teams and the individuals. 

The team:  

Our credit control team consists of 3 credit controllers managing the cash collections and invoice support processes to enable the efficient management of our ledger. 

The team work closely with our network of branch managers and recruitment consultants based in 17 branches across England and Wales as well as being tasked with creating and maintaining excellent working relationships with our schools. 

Your key duties will be: 

  • Leading from the front, you will be responsible for a designated sales ledger 
  • Managing a team of 3 Credit Controllers 
  • Acting as an initial escalation point for a team of Credit Controllers 
  • Responsible for developing the skills of the Credit Controllers including monitoring, mentoring and motivating to deliver optimum performance 
  • Performing regular ledger reviews with the Credit Controllers, including identifying areas of concern and account trends 
  • Performance management of the team keeping the Finance Manager updated with progress 
  • Providing technical input, support and expertise into investigation, negotiation and settlement of debts 
  • Monitor volumes and workloads across the team including understanding of risks faced by the function and the controls in place to manage and mitigate the risks 
  • Driving continuous improvement activity to streamline current processes and document in line with Managers requirements 
  • Ensure accuracy in the Client master data 
  • Work with the Debt Recovery to review outstanding debt on a monthly basis 
  • Ensuring the accurate reporting and communication of the Credit Teams weekly productivity  
  • Credit Check ahead of new client set up 
  • Support Finance Manager collating audit requirements 
  • Carrying out other ad hoc duties, as required by Finance Manager 

Skills and experience you will have: 

  • At least 3 years’ previous experience in a Team Leader position or similar role, preferably within the Education sector 
  • Prior experience of staff management 
  • Knowledge of Sage systems is desirable 
  • To have strong Excel skills with the ability to manipulate data and present it well; experience of pivot tables and vlookups is an advantage 
  • A proven track record of resolving queries and meeting targets 
  • Previous experience of people management in a team leader position with the ability to lead and influence others 
  • Demonstrable ability to work efficiently and effectively under pressure of deadlines, including experience in prioritising competing workloads and managing external parties’ expectations

  • The ability to recognise an issue or opportunity and work with the Finance Manager to effectively implement
