Background and Role Overview

We are currently looking to onboard a Data Privacy Manager for a large bank on a contract basis. The role can be based at the banks offices in Birmingham (or Sheffield) and there is a hybrid model, with 3 days a week in office required. This will be an initial 6 month contract, with potential for extension or potentially the option to convert to a permanent role longer term.

The Data Privacy Manager will be working within the banks UK Data Office to deliver faster, simpler and more efficient results with privacy operations, helping avoid duplication of work, reducing time to market for business sponsored programmes, helping reduce risk of breach of customer data and other privacy risk and driving adherence to Global Data Management Policies aross the bank.

The Data Privacy role will cover both operational and subject matter expertise advice to stakeholders. It will be involved with the banks global operational tool for undertaking some of their mandatory data privacy controls, including Internal and External Data Transfer, Privacy Impact Assessment and Records of Processing.The Operations team is responsible for the day to day operational management of the tool including ensuring business users understand how to use the tool and cases are input correctly as well as conducting Privacy Impact Assessments.

Key Responsibilities

  • Act as a subject matter expert on data privacy and protection law for the UK bank, working collaboratively with Legal Data Privacy and Regulatory Compliance to communicate on data risk policies
  • Acting as Control Owner for relevant controls in line with Control Owner responsibilities as outlined by the Non-Financial Risk Framework
  • Proactively identify Data Privacy risks, issues and control gaps, agreeing action plans to mitigate within a timely manner, escalating to appropriate forums where necessary
  • Growing awareness and knowledge of the GDPR and other changing laws and regulations within the remit Data Privacy for the UK bank
  • Facilitate and demonstrate cooperation, collaboration, and communication on a local, functional, and regional level to influence and engage stakeholders in working towards a mutually beneficial goal.
  • Develop and administer guidance, training and educational materials
  • Support the development and delivery of data privacy and protection controls based on data policies that assure the compliant use of data and information across the global business requirements.
  • Remain up to date with the requirements of legislation and conduct necessary gap analysis processes to identify and help build remedial work programs and highlight ongoing program risks. Work with stakeholders to plan future data privacy needs

Key Requirements

  • Preferably have worked in an Organizations Privacy office or with Data Privacy officers.
  • In-depth knowledge and understanding of Privacy law (e.g. CCPA, GDPR, ICO, CNIL regulations)
  • Show ability to manage multiple stakeholders, strong business partners and understand complex concepts quickly.
  • Ability to identify and mitigate data risks with the ability to understand materiality of data risks and prioritize / differentiate response accordingly.
  • Experience working in a large-scale banking/Financial services environment preferred
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to explain complex issues clearly, bridge between different stakeholders, especially, business, IT and legal.
  • Self-motivated with ability to think, and act, independently and work effectively under pressure with competing and rapidly changing priorities.
  • Proven track record of taking ownership / responsibility for work and be comfortable working independently
  • Influences & critiques business change & business decisions/processes, challenges the business to deliver improved outcomes.
