Data Engineer - Financial Services

SQL, Power BI, Python, ETL

£40,000 - £50,000

We are looking for a Data Engineer to join a dynamic MI & Data team responsible for data platforms within the financial services sector. You will work closely with Infrastructure and Data Teams to define and deliver data solutions that support business and external customer reporting requirements, enabling informed decision-making. This role requires expertise in data engineering best practices, process improvements, and stakeholder collaboration.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide technical expertise to the Data team and contribute to technical projects
  • Ensure seamless data delivery from inception through operational use
  • Troubleshoot performance issues and lead data issue resolution
  • Work under pressure to meet deadlines and resolve issues effectively
  • Operate within an ITIL framework to manage incidents, problems, and system changes
  • Support the development of MI reporting capabilities and data platforms

Skills, Qualifications & Experience

  • Degree or equivalent work experience
  • Strong experience in SQL coding, stored procedures, and functions
  • ETL/ELT experience using SQL and Python
  • Experience working with diverse data sources (REST APIs, SQL, NoSQL databases)
  • Familiarity with version-control systems (Azure DevOps, Git)
  • Understanding of database design, OLTP, OLAP, and Data Warehousing concepts
  • Experience with MS SQL Server and/or PostgreSQL
  • Desirable: exposure to NoSQL, big data technologies (Apache Spark, Apache Iceberg), and Power BI
  • Knowledge of information security, data security, and data governance
