An established and highly regarded accountancy firm in Birmingham is looking for an experienced and motivated Client Manager to lead their Accounting Services team.

This is a fantastic opportunity for a qualified ICAEW or ACCA professional to take on a leadership role, overseeing the day-to-day operations of the accounting department, while also mentoring and supporting a team of accounting professionals.

This role is ideal for a strong leader with excellent people skills, technical expertise, and a passion for both client service and team development. You will be responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, ensuring compliance with accounting standards, and playing a key role in the strategic financial planning of the firm.

Role Responsibilities
  • Leading and managing a diverse team, including senior and junior staff, as well as apprentices
  • Working closely with Assistant Managers to ensure the smooth day-to-day running of the department
  • Overseeing professional development opportunities for team members, helping them progress in their careers
  • Preparing and reviewing monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports
  • Ensuring compliance with accounting regulations and internal policies
  • Assisting clients with accounting software setup and general financial queries
  • Managing the preparation and submission of VAT returns, overseeing the process and providing guidance to the team
  • Collaborating with other departments to ensure accurate financial recording and reporting
  • Analysing internal financial data to identify trends and recommend improvements
  • Driving process improvement initiatives to enhance efficiency and accuracy within the department
  • Supporting the tax preparation process and other regulatory reporting
  • Assisting the Accounting Services Partners with strategic financial planning and decision-making
  • Contributing to special projects and firm-wide initiatives as required

Candidate Requirements
  • ICAEW or ACCA qualified
  • Proven experience in leading and managing accounting teams (exposure to the medical sector is desirable but not essential)
  • Strong technical accounting expertise, with the ability to review complex financial reports for accuracy and compliance
  • Proficiency in accounting software and MS Office, with advanced Excel skills
  • Excellent analytical skills and attention to detail
  • Highly organised, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build relationships with colleagues, clients, and third parties
  • Ability to handle confidential information with discretion and professionalism
  • A proactive, team-oriented mindset, with the ability to work both independently and collaboratively
