Corporate Tax Manager - Top 50 Accountancy Firm - Birmingham

An outstanding opportunity has opened up for a driven tax professional to join a renowned Top 50 accountancy firm in our vibrant Birmingham office. With a strong national footprint and deep expertise in the Midlands, we're celebrated for delivering high-quality tax, audit, and advisory services with a client-focused, innovative approach. We're looking for a Corporate Tax Manager to strengthen our tax team and drive our growth in the region. You'll oversee a varied portfolio of clients-from owner-managed businesses to listed groups-delivering UK and cross-border tax advice, managing complex compliance, and identifying new opportunities. Working closely with our tax partners, you'll play a key role in client relationships and mentor junior team members to help them excel.

Our clients span ambitious SMEs, large corporates, and international entities, offering you exposure to diverse sectors and tax challenges, including group structures, R&D reliefs, and property taxes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Building and nurturing client relationships, spotting opportunities to offer additional services like VAT, payroll taxes, or corporate finance support.
  • Leading UK and cross-border tax advisory projects, drafting reports on group restructures, tax-efficient strategies, and international tax issues for partner review.
  • Overseeing compliance for larger or more intricate corporate clients, ensuring accurate and timely tax filings.
  • Coaching junior staff, sharing expertise through on-the-job training and constructive feedback.
  • Engaging with clients on routine and bespoke tax matters via phone, email, or in-person meetings, addressing corporation tax and related queries.
  • Responding to HMRC enquiries efficiently and preparing necessary disclosures.
  • Coordinating with clients and external advisors to gather data for compliance and advisory work.
  • Managing financial performance on client projects, including billing, budgeting, and profitability tracking.
  • Contributing to business development through networking and team initiatives to attract new work.
  • Adhering to firm risk policies, managing reputational and operational risks in all client interactions.

Qualifications/Education Required

  • ACA, CTA, or equivalent qualification, with extensive practical experience in corporate tax.

Particular Aptitudes/Skills Required

  • Proven client service skills, with confidence in regular client engagement and advisory discussions.
  • Strong organisational ability to juggle priorities and meet deadlines with precision.
  • Self-motivated, with the initiative to solve problems and enhance processes independently.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and tax software, with a solid grasp of UK GAAP basics.
  • Leadership skills to guide and inspire junior team members.
  • Commercial savvy to develop new business and deliver impactful client solutions.
