A fantastic, top high street Birmingham based firm, known to us as a client for many years are keen to add an experienced Finance Manager to their already impressive team on a full time basis to head up the function as Head of Finance.

 

As the Head of Finance, you will focus on managing the daily accounts of the business and dealing with all aspects of credit control.

Based in well-equipped offices in an impressive setting, close to commuter links, the Head of Finance will benefit from working with a cohesive team of Lawyers, Administrators and Fee Earners to deliver a high quality of a full range of Head of Finance duties in Birmingham. The role offers competitive hybrid. Duties and responsibilities of the Head of Finance:

  • Oversee daily accounting operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, and general ledger.
  • Prepare and analyse monthly, quarterly and annual financial statements in a timely manner with relevant accounting standards.
  • Manage the consolidation of financial results from multiple entities within the group.
  • Ensure compliance with accounting standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Monitor cash flow and manage working capital effectively.
  • Manage accounts receivable and payable processes to optimise cash flow.
  • Prepare the annual budgets and forecasts.
  • Monitor budget performance and provide variance analysis to management.
  • Conduct financial analysis to identify trends, risks, and opportunities for improvement.
  • Analyse operating expenses and recommend reductions or adjustments as needed.
  • Implement and maintain robust financial controls and procedures.
  • Conduct regular audits of financial processes and reports to ensure accuracy.
  • Implement cost control measures to enhance profitability.
  • Identify financial risks and develop mitigation strategies.
  • Ensure the firm’s financial policies are robust and adhered to.
  • Support insurance and compliance initiatives to protect the firm’s assets.
  • Supervise the accounting teams for each entity, providing guidance and support as needed.
  • Foster a culture of continuous improvement within the finance department.
  • Provide training and development opportunities to enhance team performance.
  • Prepare presentations and reports for management.
  • Collaborate with other departments to provide financial insights and support strategic initiatives.
  • Communicate financial information effectively to non-financial stakeholders.
Qualifications & Key Competencies:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting or Business Administration.
  • Minimum 4 years of experience in finance within a law firm.
  • Strong knowledge of financial regulations, SRA rules and best practices in finance within a law firm.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy in financial reporting.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficient in financial software and Microsoft Excel.
  • Strong leadership and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
  • Experience working with Practice Management software
