Due to an exciting period of growth, my client is seeking an Assistant Town Planner (Planning Consultant) to join their expanding Professional Services team. This role involves delivering specialist planning services to planning professionals, developers, local planning authorities, applicants, and the public. The ideal candidate will provide expert advice, informed assessments, and high-quality planning reports to a diverse range of customers.
Key Responsibilities-
Provide online/remote planning advice on general and specific planning matters.

Prepare for customer meetings by researching local planning policies and histories.

Deliver written summaries and detailed Planning Consultancy reports following pre-application consultations.

Complete delegated and committee planning application reports, including Household Residential Extensions, Lawful Development Certificates, Prior Notifications, Advertisement Consents, and Changes of Use.

Effectively communicate and negotiate with applicants and agents regarding planning applications and post-refusal advice.

Use back-office systems to update applications, compile reports, and document site visits and evaluations.

Maintain high levels of productivity and accuracy to meet key performance indicators (KPIs).

Attend team meetings and case conferences as required.

A relevant BA degree or equivalent RTPI Certified Planning Course.

Strong oral communication skills to confidently provide guidance to professionals, customers, and the public.

Ability to manage workloads efficiently, work under pressure, and meet strict deadlines.

Excellent written communication skills to produce clear and accurate planning reports.

Strong analytical skills to assess plans against planning policies at local, regional, and national levels.

Ability to liaise with internal and external stakeholders and negotiate effectively.

At least six months of experience in planning applications within a Planning Authority or the private sector.
