Base Materials Ltd are a chemical engineering business across 2 sites (Whetstone & Frankley) with its core activities being the manufacture of styling, modelling and tooling materials for the production of high-quality precision moulds, master models, jigs & fixtures, across a diverse range of applications and industries including automotive, aerospace, motor sport, marine and varied industrial application.

As part of our ongoing Growth Plan, we are seeking to broaden our internal expertise with a newly scoped Project Manager role. As Project Manager you will manage the end-to-end process of the long run multistage projects. Initially collaborating with commercial team to produce quotes, prices and lead times for customers. Once the order is secured, you will collaborate with engineering to create the Bill of Materials (BOM) and associated operational documents then manage the workflow through the factory until completion of the order. Internal resources and third parties should be managed to ensure the flawless execution of multiple, complex projects. You will ensure that projects are delivered on time, within scope and within budget and that customers are appraised of progress against the project plan. You will be a strong leader and developer of people, striving for a high-performing team.

On a day-to-day basis, duties will include:

Developing project scopes and objectives, involving all relevant stakeholders and ensuring technical and engineering feasibility.

Develop a detailed project plan to track progress

Plan, schedule and track jobs to completion, ensuring they are made right first time with quality in mind

Create basic revenue models and P/L; meet financial objectives by forecasting requirements; preparing budgets; scheduling expenditures; analysing variances and initiating corrective actions

Manage day to day operational aspects of the project(s)

Ensure resource availability and allocation, keeping in mind changing needs and responsibilities and any relevant SLAs (including potential penalties).

Use appropriate verification techniques to manage changes in project scope, schedule and costs

Liaise with customers ensuring they are kept up to date

Measure project performance using appropriate systems, tools and techniques

Manage relationships with stakeholders

Perform risk management to minimise project risks

Establish and maintain relationships with third parties/suppliers as well as strong collaboration with internal quality and procurement

Create and maintain comprehensive project documentation

Submit project status reports to stakeholders on a regular basis including reporting to the Directors

Use appropriate lean manufacturing principles (Six Sigma, 5S), striving to achieve right first time, every time, leading to zero defects at dispatch and no customer complaints.

Maintain ongoing dialogue with Management to inform them of significant issues which may adversely impact the business ability to deliver operational objectives.

Management and People Development

Lead by example to guide, train, support and develop the team and their individual skillsets towards becoming a high-performance, effective, efficient and collaborative operational team.

Support on any relevant recruiting, managing, disciplining, performance management.

Ensure the operating objectives and standards of performance are understood and owned by all operational team members.

Support the development and progression of team members as appropriate.

Requirements / Qualifications:

Project management training/qualification (PRINCE II preferred but not essential)

Engineering qualification preferably a Diploma/Degree (Or equivalent) in an engineering, polymer science or technology-based subject.

Ability to read and interpret technical plans / drawings

Strong experience in data analysis and reporting to support project management and decision-making.

SME manufacturing / multi-site experience ideally from an engineering planner background

Extensive knowledge of modern manufacturing techniques, ideally with experience of Lean Six Sigma

Quality Focus - A "right first-time" mentality with a strong eye for detail and quality control.

A strong work ethic with accountability, serving as an outstanding coach and role model for the team.

Ability to streamline operations to ensure a quality product.

Preferred but not essential:

Experience of working to ISO9001 standards and ISO45001 standards

An understanding of the Buoyancy industry
