Band Saw Operative

InstaStaff are currently recruiting for a permanent Band Saw Operative to join a leading UK metal stockholder based in North Birmingham. They produce various metals including aluminium, steel, titanium, nickel, alloy, and hi-tech metals.

This role is worked over 2 shifts, 1 week 6am – 2.30pm and 1 week 2pm – 10.30pm, Monday to Friday.

The ideal candidate will have a metals or manufacturing experience and have FLT experience.

Duties of the Band Saw Operative will include:

• Ensuring all products are handled, cut and identified in accordance with our client’s Working Practices and Procedures ensuring adherence to customer requirements in a safe manner conforming to all relevant Health and Safety regulations.
• The accurate setting, cutting and identification of materials maximising stock utilisation and minimising any scrap of damage to both customer products and stock.
• The maintenance and accurate recording of all details on both the computer-based stock control system and all other supporting documentation.
• Promote continuous improvement processes to maximise stock productivity and minimise waste in all operational processes.
• Maintain and promote safe working practices and policies whilst engaged in your daily role
• Ensuring that all products are handled in the most appropriate manner to eliminate any damage, or health hazards, in accordance with Health and Safety regulations.
• Ensuring full conformance to all the identified order requirements as presented.
• Ensuring the computer-based stock control system, and all supporting documentation, is fully maintained and accurate at all in accordance with our client’s quality and working procedures and practices.
• Responsible for ensuring all stock being processed is maximised to achieve the best stock utilisation possible in adherence with our client’s quality and working procedures and practices.
• Ensuring all stock and processed products are clearly identified in accordance with both our client and customer requirements at all times.

The ideal Band Saw Operative  will have:

• Previous experience within a similar role
• Knowledge on all aspects of raw materials as handled by the site.
• Knowledge of all products handled by the site and its disparate cutting requirements.
• Ability to read and understand a cutting pattern to maximise stock utilisation and minimise waste.
• Programming knowledge for machine set-up, preparation and cutting.
• Understanding of materials handling for all processed products in accordance with Health and Safety regulations.
• PC Literate.
• Ability to be trained and understand being a business approved stamp holder.
• Understanding of Health and Safety at Work legislation and its practical application.
• Understanding of the full scope of quality processes applicable to handling of materials.
• Current valid counterbalance mechanical handling license
• Machine Maintenance skills applicable to the type of equipment operated.
• Understanding of continuous improvement philosophies.

The salary for the Bar Saw Operative  is between £25,376 - £26,416 per year depending on experience

Hours of work for the Bar Saw Operative are Monday – Friday, weekly rotational shifts of 1 week 6am – 2.30pm and 1 week 2pm – 10.30pm
