A Day in the Life of an RMN:

As an RMN specialising in older adult care, you’ll play a vital role within the ward team, providing high-quality care in a safe, supportive environment. Your responsibilities will be varied and rewarding, with the opportunity to make a real difference in the lives of your patients:

  • Patient Care: You’ll conduct thorough assessments and deliver hands-on care, monitoring patients' physical and mental health. Building relationships with patients is key as you help them navigate their recovery process.

  • Medication Administration: You’ll be responsible for administering prescribed medications at the appropriate times, ensuring patients’ needs are met in line with their care plans.

  • Care Planning and Monitoring: Working collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team, you’ll assist in creating and updating care plans. Regular evaluations of patient progress will be essential as you adjust care to ensure the most effective treatment.

  • Risk Assessments: You’ll perform continuous risk assessments, ensuring the safety of both patients and staff by identifying and managing any potential risks.

  • Supporting Activities: You will support ward activities and therapeutic interventions aimed at improving patients' mental and physical well-being, creating a positive and engaging atmosphere within the ward.

 

What You’ll Need:

  • Active NMC registration as a mental health nurse.
  • Proven experience working with older adults.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to thrive under pressure.
  • Ability to work independently while also collaborating with a multidisciplinary team when needed.
  • A strong commitment to delivering the highest quality care to patients.
