DescriptionBirmingham Children's Trust is seeking an experienced Senior Practitioner Social Worker to join our Children in Need Team. This is a fantastic opportunity to play a key role in improving outcomes for children, young people, and families across the city.As a Senior Practitioner, you will provide expert guidance and support to social workers while managing a complex caseload. You will champion best practices, mentor less experienced colleagues, and ensure high-quality interventions that make a real difference in children’s lives.Responsibilities
  • Undertake complex casework, including child protection, safeguarding, and legal proceedings.
  • Provide mentorship and professional guidance to social workers, ensuring high standards of practice.
  • Share a thorough knowledge of legislation, national standards, and best practices.
  • Work in partnership with families, professionals, and external agencies to deliver effective support.
  • Contribute to quality assurance, coaching, and performance management within the team.
  • Represent the department at meetings, court proceedings, and multi-agency forums.
  • Support the Team Manager in ensuring a high-quality, needs-led service.
Requirements
  • Qualifications: Degree in Social Work and registration with Social Work England.
  • Experience: Significant post-qualification experience in children’s social care, including safeguarding, child protection, and working with families in need.
  • Skills: Strong assessment, decision-making, and leadership skills.
  • Knowledge: Sound understanding of relevant legislation, policies, and best practices.
  • Other Requirements: Commitment to professional development and mentoring junior colleagues.
