Role: Controls / Software EngineerLocation: BirminghamSector: Food - AutomationSalary: £50,000 - £57,000Owen Daniels Recruitment has engaged with a key client and an established Manufacturing company providing a wide range of services to the food industry, and high-profile clients. Due to team & project growth an opportunity has arisen for a Controls / Software Engineer to join on a permanent basis.Key Responsibilities:
  • Design and develop control systems within PLC environments, specifically using AB and Siemens platforms.
  • Create modular software blocks to safeguard intellectual property and enable rapid deployment.
  • Collaborate closely with all departments to play a key role in transitioning new designs from documentation and prototyping to timely production and testing.
  • Provide global technical support and maintenance, including documentation and explaining software functionality to customers as needed.
  • Adhere to and complete software testing procedures for all designs and equipment before release, recording the types of tests performed (e.g., simulation, R&D machine, or production).
  • Consult and provide on-site support during the installation and commissioning phases of projects, ensuring successful and timely completion to meet customer satisfaction.
  • Travel globally to commission first-of-series machines and their associated software components.
Key Skills & Qualifications:
  • Degree in Software Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related discipline.
  • At least 3 years of experience in controls engineering, with some independent work in the special-purpose machinery or manufacturing sector.
  • A background in maintenance is preferred.
  • Familiarity with the food and packaging industry is beneficial but not required.
  • Proficiency in Rockwell and Siemens PLC software design and programming.
  • Experience with Rockwell and Siemens PLC systems and software.
  • Knowledge of SCADA software, specifically Wonderware and InTouch.
  • Competence in HMI software, including Rockwell and Siemens platforms.
  • Understanding of industrial communication networks.
  • Experience with safety PLCs is advantageous.
  • Ability to produce technical documentation
