Are you a patient, proactive and emotionally intelligent Teaching Assistant with a passion for supporting neurodiverse pupils?

We're working with a welcoming mainstream primary school in Handsworth who are looking for a dedicated 1:1 SEN Teaching Assistant to support a child in Year 3 with Pathological Demand Avoidance (PDA), who is currently on the neurodiverse pathway. The role is full-time, long-term and offers the potential to join the school's pastoral team permanently in 2026.

Your role will include:

  • Providing consistent 1:1 support to a child with PDA in Year 3
  • Using low-demand and child-led approaches to reduce anxiety and build trust
  • Working closely with the SENCO, class teacher and external professionals
  • Supporting the pupil's emotional regulation and positive engagement with learning
  • Creating a calm, structured and safe space for the pupil throughout the day

We're looking for someone with:

  • Experience supporting children with PDA, ASC or similar profiles
  • Qualifications related to mentoring, neurodiversity and SEN.
  • A calm, empathetic and non-confrontational approach
  • Strong understanding of neurodiverse needs, especially within primary setting
  • Excellent communication skills and team ethos
  • A commitment to long-term, consistent support
