Location: Selly Oak, Birmingham, At Pupils Home
Hours: 2.30pm until 7.30pm Monday to Friday / 42 weeks of the year / Easter, Summer & Christmas not required.
Salary: £23 per hour
Job Description:
We are seeking a professional with an educational background to provide high-quality, reliable support and educational services tailored to meet the Pupils specific needs. This role is pivotal in promoting independence, communication, choice, and enhancing his inclusion in the community.

Key Responsibilities:
- Personalised Educational Support: Enable Pupil to fully engage in learning and social experiences, offering him access to various leisure activities and ensuring these are appropriate to his individual needs.
- Communication Partner: Serve as a sensitive and effective communication partner, responding to Pupils individual communication needs, and developing Total Communication skills (including clear speech and augmentative communication technologies).
- Mobility and Safety Support: As a competent sighted guide, follow advice on mobility and orientation to ensure pupils access to his environment and his safety.
- Training & Development: Participate in training to deepen your understanding of multi-sensory impairment (MSI) and learn about accessible technologies for individuals with sensory needs.
- Daily Care: Assist Pupil with his daily care and health needs as required.
- Team Collaboration: Work effectively within a multi-disciplinary team, supporting and being supported by other professionals, and contributing to a collaborative approach in Caleb’s care.
- Community and Social Engagement: Support Pupil both in his home and the wider community, helping him to live a full, active life with ample opportunities for social interaction.
- Record Keeping and Reporting: Maintain detailed records of daily activities and attend team and review meetings regularly.
- Family Collaboration: Work alongside Pupils family, keeping them informed and involved in decisions regarding his care and activities.
- Home Accessibility: Ensure pupils home is accessible and safe for his needs.
General Duties and Responsibilities:
- Follow existing working practices, procedures, and relevant training activities, and adapt to new systems as required.
- Maintain confidentiality and observe all data protection and safeguarding guidelines.
- Perform other reasonable duties as directed by the case manager or pupils family.
- Adhere to all safeguarding policies to ensure pupils safety and well-being.
Essential Skills, Abilities, and Knowledge:
- Strong understanding of the complexities of multi-sensory impairment (MSI).
- A passion for working with and communicating with young people with sensory impairments.
- Knowledge and willingness to engage with specialist accessible technology for individuals with visual impairments.
- Ability to learn and use software tools designed for the visually impaired.
- Excellent team collaboration skills, including the ability to work with professionals across disciplines.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and work in sensitive environments.
- Strong oral, written, and numerical communication skills.
- A commitment to equal opportunities and inclusivity.
- Excellent time management and a strong work ethic.
Job Specifications:
- Experience working with young people with visual impairments (VI), hearing impairments (HI), multi-sensory impairments (MSI), or profound and multiple learning disabilities (PMLD).
- Training as an Intervenor or a willingness to undertake relevant training.
- Strong English language skills to accurately record daily activities and communication.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a multi-disciplinary team, incorporating advice and guidance from professionals such as SALT, Physiotherapists, and Occupational Therapists.
- A willingness to pursue ongoing training to meet Pupils evolving needs.
