Private Client Tax Senior Manager / Manager

A super opportunity to join a Legal 500 law firm in the north east of England who focus extensively on private client work. They are looking to grow their private client tax department and as such are seeking to appoint a Senior Tax Manager or Tax Manager with a proven portfolio of private client tax experience to help lead the growth alongside their experienced Private Client Solicitors.

The client base ranges from private individuals to land and business owners and landed estates, and presents a range of interesting projects to provide advisory services too. As a firm they adopt a collaborative culture both internally within the practice as well as sharing best practice and knowledge within the wider tax and legal community.

With a specialist team including a dedicated trust and tax department they are able to provide tax advisory and tax compliance support, run live trusts and consult on tax and estate planning. The nature of the lawyers work means they have a strong flow of assignments, yet a huge opportunity to develop this market further as a wider offering from the firm. This is where a Senior Tax Manager / Tax Manager will be able to lead this tax service line.

The new post holder will play a pivotal role in developing their own team to ensure a first quality delivery service is provided on a range of work they will oversee, which will include:

  • Provision of tax returns for ongoing trusts, estates and HNWI's
  • Maintenance of trusts, preparing trust accounts and the related administration
  • Assisting with tax planning work for HWNI's and families / estates including IHT
  • Dealing with Trust Registration Service requirements when creating , altering or terminating trusts
  • Liaising with brokers, agents, IFAs where necessary
  • Dealing with ten year anniversary charges, exit charges and all aspects of IHT compliance work
  • Preparing CGT computations
  • Dealing with chargeable events both for estates and trusts

Furthermore they currently outsource some more technical work amongst their network of accountants which they would look to keep in-house and offer a more "full" service to their clients.

We are looking for a client facing qualified tax professional (ACA / ACCA / CA / CTA / ATT) who is able to manage their own clients from day one working alongside the lawyers so that clients benefit form both legal and tax expertise. You will have a keen interest in growing your tax market to build a bigger and better private client team. The role will involve both compliance and advisory work, meeting clients and developing your referral network. There will be recruiting, training and sharing knowledge, growing the private client team to offer something a little more unique to the rest of the tax and legal market.

The position is open to anyone with a proven experience in tax advisory, trusts, Inheritance tax planning and estates management from either the accountancy or legal sector.

The position comes with a full comprehensive salary package that reflects the level of individual appointed to the position whether that be at Senior Manager or Manager level.
