Our client is a leading logistics provider.

Description

The General Manager will ensure that the distribution centre achieves it's customer service requirements in accordance with agreed budgets. This will be delivered in a safe manner, whilst promoting employee engagement and development and planning for the longer-term improvement of the business. Based at our client's start up operation in the North East, key responsibilities will include:

  • Manage, support and motivate the Management team to achieve daily output objectives and deliver shift KPI's and achieve longer-term objectives.
  • Ensure Customer Service and Customer Performance requirements are met in full.
  • Promote a culture of employee engagement on site through your actions and various other initiatives.
  • Ensure the team has the support in ensuring that there is sufficient employee resource both in quality and quantity in order to meet site performance expectations.
  • Set, monitor and deliver against an agreed budget.
  • Ensure compliance with all company policies and legislation.
  • Have overall responsibility for Health & Safety on site, including direct line management of the H&S Manager.
  • In collaboration with the Head of Facilities & Safety Management, ensure alignment with the overall safety strategy and champion a true safety culture.
  • Involvement in UK and Ireland network management decisions, seeking to optimise overall company performance.
  • Champion the company's quality management system on site ensuring that agreed standards are maintained and improved.
  • Build and develop good working relationships with union representatives and full time officials.
  • Chair monthly and quarterly distribution centre reviews.

Profile

The successful General Manager will live within a commuting distance of our client's operation in the North East and be able to demonstrate the following experience:

  • Experience of leading large scale FMCG operations that include a significant warehouse and/or transport operation.
  • A people first leadership style with an emphasis on engagement and developing others.
  • Experience of leading and delivering change on a large scale.
  • Experience of managing large and complex budgets.
  • An effective communicator that can collaborate across all levels.
  • Previous experience of managing effectively within unionised environments.
