The Hoghton Tower Preservation Trust is a registered charity responsible for ensuring that Hoghton Tower’s physical structure and grounds are maintained and restored, and that its rich and varied history is kept alive and relevant for future generations. Hoghton Tower is open to the public, welcoming school groups, private tours.  general visitors as well as hosting events, farmers markets, private and corporate events. We are looking for an experienced Business Manager who will lead the delivery and development of the business, ensuring its ongoing commercial success through innovative product development, partnership and delivering the very best visitor experience.

As business manager, you will oversee all aspects of heritage management, including sales and marketing, operations, catering, retail, accommodation, administration, educational and commercial partnerships, contractor management, security and health and safety. As such you will oversee the comprehensive and high-quality management of our operations to ensure productivity and profitability. This will mean:

  • Leading your team ensuring that every individual is working effectively in their role.
  • Networking regionally and nationally to foster new partnerships and relationships with relevant stakeholders
  • Delivering budgeted targets in relation to commercial income and visitor numbers as well as developing new ones. There will be a specific and time boxed focus on three priority areas: weddings, accommodation and filming targets
  • Delivering an integrated Business Development and Marketing Plan, setting the forecast for annual financial and marketing targets

About you

You will possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills, enabling you to engage effectively with a wide range of people at strategic and operational levels. With a proven track record in retail, business, marketing, tourism or visitor services, especially within the charity sector, you are adept at growing commercial operations. A keen interest in history is important; Your budget management skills, including regular monitoring, forecasting, will ensure the financial health and sustainability of the operations Experience in working with volunteers and community groups will further highlight your suitability for this role As a confident and flexible leader, you will demonstrate a management style that values communicating openly and effectively with everyone. Your excellent planning, report writing, and time-management skills will help you navigate the complexities of this role. You will possess practical experience of the operational side of a customer facing business, Additionally, your IT skills will allow you to manage EPOS and online booking systems efficiently.
