We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate SEND Teaching Assistant (TA) to join our team at a specialist Secondary SEND Provision in Bolton. This provision supports pupils with a wide range of additional needs, including Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), ADHD, Moderate Learning Disabilities (MLD), Complex Needs, Social Emotional and Mental Health needs (SEMH) and students with challenging and/or explosive behaviours.
As a SEND TA, you will play a key role in providing tailored support to help students thrive academically, socially, and emotionally. You will be instrumental in creating a safe, positive, and inclusive learning environment for all students, assisting them in overcoming barriers to learning and behaviour. Your expertise in de-escalation techniques, such as Team Teach or equivalent training, will be crucial in ensuring that students can focus on their education and personal development.
Key Responsibilities:
Provide 1:1 and small group support to students with a range of SEND, including ASC, ADHD, MLD, Complex Needs, SEMH, and challenging behaviours.
Assist in the delivery of bespoke educational programmes tailored to individual needs and learning styles.
Help students engage with their learning and encourage positive behaviour.
Implement de-escalation techniques when needed to manage challenging or explosive behaviours.
Support the teacher in creating and maintaining a positive, nurturing classroom environment.
Develop strong, supportive relationships with students to build their confidence, self-esteem, and emotional wellbeing.
Liaise with teachers, support staff, and parents to ensure a holistic approach to each child's development.
Contribute to the monitoring and assessment of pupil progress.
Requirements:
Experience working in a SEND or Special Educational Needs environment, ideally within a secondary setting.
A recognised de-escalation qualification, such as Team Teach or equivalent, is essential.
Strong knowledge of a range of SEND, including ASC, ADHD, MLD, Complex Needs, and challenging behaviours.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build effective working relationships with students, staff, and parents.
A patient, empathetic, and positive attitude with a commitment to providing high-quality support.
The ability to remain calm and composed in challenging situations and demonstrate resilience.
A flexible and proactive approach to supporting students with a diverse range of needs.
Desirable:
A relevant qualification in SEND, education, or a related field.
Experience working with pupils exhibiting challenging behaviour or complex needs.
