Job Summary

Eden Brown are seeking an experienced and proactive Head of Health, Safety & Environment to lead and manage all aspects of health, safety, and environmental compliance across our further education college. This is a key leadership role, ensuring that the college provides a safe and compliant learning and working environment for students, staff, and visitors.

Key Responsibilities

- Develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive health, safety, and environmental policies, ensuring compliance with all relevant legislation and regulations.
- Lead on health and safety strategy, driving continuous improvement and promoting a positive safety culture across the college.
- Provide expert advice and guidance to senior management, staff, and students on all health, safety, and environmental matters.
- Conduct risk assessments, audits, and inspections, ensuring that all identified risks are managed effectively.
- Develop and deliver health, safety, and environmental training for staff and students, raising awareness and ensuring compliance.
- Investigate accidents, incidents, and near misses, identifying root causes and implementing corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
- Act as the main point of contact with external regulatory bodies, ensuring the college meets all legal obligations.
- Oversee the management of fire safety, first aid provision, and emergency response planning.
- Lead on sustainability initiatives, driving environmental improvements and ensuring the college meets its sustainability objectives.
- Monitor and report on key health, safety, and environmental performance indicators, providing regular updates to senior leadership and governing bodies.

Person Specification

Essential:

- NEBOSH Diploma or equivalent qualification in Health & Safety.
- Proven experience in a senior health and safety role, ideally within an educational or similar environment.
- In-depth knowledge of UK health, safety, and environmental legislation.
- Strong leadership skills with experience in managing teams and influencing senior stakeholders.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage and educate staff and students.
- Experience in conducting risk assessments, audits, and accident investigations.
- Ability to develop and deliver training programs.
- Competent IT skills, with experience in using health and safety management systems.

Desirable:

- Environmental Management qualification (e.g., IEMA, ISO 14001).
- Experience in sustainability and environmental initiatives.
- Experience working within a further education or public sector setting.
