Senior Financial Accountant | Braintree, Essex | Full Time or Part Time | Full-time is 37.5 hours per week, and part-time is 20-25 hours per week | £35,000 - £55,000 depending on experience

Our client is an award-winning cloud accounting firm serving Braintree, Chelmsford, and the wider Essex area.

They are seeking an experienced Senior Financial Accountant to join their expanding team.

The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing and managing the financial accounting activities for a diverse range of clients.

Are you the right person for the job?

  • ACA, ACCA, or CIMA qualified (or equivalent), with a strong understanding of UK accounting standards (FRS 102, UK GAAP) and tax regulations
  • A minimum of 5 years' experience in a financial accounting role, ideally within a practice accountancy environment
  • Experience of preparing financial statements for a variety of clients, including SMEs, limited companies, and partnerships
  • Proactive, self-motivated, and able to work independently
  • A team player with excellent interpersonal skills
  • Professional and confident in dealing with clients at all levels
    • Strong technical accounting skills, with the ability to interpret complex financial data and provide valuable insights
    • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain complex financial information to clients in a clear and concise manner
    • Proven ability to manage multiple clients and meet tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment
    • Strong IT skills, including proficiency in accounting software such as Xero, QuickBooks, Sage, or similar systems
    • Detail-oriented with a high level of accuracy
    • Experience of leading and developing junior staff would be an advantage

What will your role look like?

  • Prepare and review financial statements in compliance with UK GAAP, FRS 102, and IFRS, ensuring accuracy and adherence to accounting standards and regulations
  • Lead the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and year-end financial statements, ensuring they are delivered on time and meet high-quality standards.
  • Oversee the creation of management accounts and provide clients with valuable financial insights and analysis.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for clients regarding their financial accounting and reporting requirements
  • Offer expert advice and guidance to clients, helping them interpret financial reports, make informed decisions, and achieve their financial objectives
  • Foster and maintain strong relationships with clients, ensuring high satisfaction and long-term retention
  • Support the audit process by collaborating with auditors and ensuring the timely provision of necessary documentation
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant regulatory and statutory requirements, including VAT, PAYE, and corporation tax returns
  • Supervise, mentor, and guide junior staff and trainees, providing regular reviews and supporting their professional growth
  • Contribute to the training and development of the accounting team by sharing knowledge, best practices, and technical expertise
  • Assist in corporate tax planning, VAT returns, and other tax-related services in collaboration with the tax team
  • Stay current with updates in tax laws, accounting standards, and financial regulations to maintain compliance and offer proactive, up-to-date advice
  • Identify areas for process improvements and implement changes to enhance internal efficiency and reduce operational costs
  • Support the development and integration of new accounting software and tools to improve workflow and system performance
