Anderson Knight is currently recruiting a Livestock Buyer to join one of our clients who are leaders in the food manufacturing industry.

The livestock buyer will be responsible for sourcing and purchasing high-quality livestock, primarily cattle, sheep, and other red meat species, ensuring they meet company standards for quality, weight, and health. This role requires strong negotiation skills, market awareness, and the ability to build and maintain relationships with farmers and suppliers.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Source and purchase livestock in line with company requirements and industry standards.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with farmers, producers, and suppliers.
  • Assess and select livestock based on quality, health, weight, and suitability for processing.
  • Negotiate prices and contracts to ensure cost-effective procurement.
  • Monitor livestock market trends, pricing, and supply chain factors.
  • Ensure compliance with animal welfare, traceability, and biosecurity regulations.
  • Work closely with the processing and sales teams to align procurement with demand.
  • Maintain accurate records of purchases, contracts, and supplier information.

Key Requirements:

  • Proven experience in livestock procurement, buying, or a related agricultural role.
  • Strong knowledge of red meat livestock species, market trends, and industry regulations.
  • Excellent negotiation and communication skills.
  • Ability to travel extensively to farms, auctions, and markets.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to assess livestock quality effectively.
  • Knowledge of animal welfare, transport regulations, and traceability systems.
  • Full valid driving license.
