ROLE - Design Engineer



LOCATION- Cardiff



TERM- Permanent



SALARY- 35,000 - 45,000 per annum, dependent on experience



My client is a manufacturer of specialist products for a variety of sectors, and they are looking to take on a Design Engineer on a permanent basis in the Cardiff area.



The Design Engineerwill ideally have the following attributes:

  • Degree / HNC / HND / BTEC / NVQ qualified in Mechanical Engineering or similar
  • Previous experience in a similar role in a manufacturing environment
  • Experience with Sheet Metal/Metalwork is necessary for this role
  • Be proficient using 3D CAD software such as Creo, Inventor, SolidWorks, etc.
  • Good theoretical mechanical engineering knowledge of core principles and tight tolerances
  • Have the ability to work well alone as well as part of a small multi-disciplinary team
  • Have the ability to carry out mechanical calculations
  • Any previous experience of working with process machinery or steel / metal materials would be desirable
  • Excellent communication skills both verbal and written
  • Proficient using MS Office
  • Excellent organisational skills and time management skills


The Design Engineer role will involve:

  • Working within the current engineering team with other Design Engineers
  • Producing 3D designs using Autodesk Inventor CAD software and 2D designs with AutoCAD
  • Liaising with manufacturing providers
  • Being involved in final assembly of products
  • Creating the required documentation for design as well as project reports / plans
  • Updating 3D models and drawings
  • Inputting parts into the MRP system creating BOMs
  • Checking drawings for sign off
  • Working in a small multi-disciplinary team on varied projects
