Senior Tax Accountant
Duration: 3-6 months, likely extensions available
Rate: £600pd (Inside IR35)
Remote Working, occasional onsite meetings required
Our client is looking for an experienced Senior Tax Accountant to join them on an interim basis for the next 3-6 months.You will report to the Chief Accountant and Lead Financial & Tax Accountant, taking the lead role in providing technical VAT and Tax support and guidance to the Finance team and wider organisation, comprising West Midlands Combined Authority and its subsidiaries.
For this specialist role, the successful candidate will have extensive experience in VAT management, including VAT return submissions, complex VAT queries and reviewing VAT processes. They will have liaised with HMRC and provided staff support regarding VAT queries. With a background in financial accounting and control, they have will have handled partial exemption, reconciliations and year-end support work related to VAT.
Responsibilities:
- Preparation and submission of Intrastat and VAT returns for organisation and its subsidiaries, including analytical review of significant movements and presentation at monthly VAT review meeting
- Reconciliation of VAT Control account and management of VAT Suspense account, working with the AP/AR Team to action and clear any outstanding items
- Provision of tax advice on complex transactions in conjunction with the Lead Financial & Tax Accountant
- Review and automation of current VAT processes and reports to achieve efficiency savings
- Responsible for the design and delivery of VAT training to the finance team and wider organisation
- Any other tasks commensurate with the role, as requested by the Line Manager
Requirements:
- CCAB qualified accountant
- VAT experience essential
- Self-motivated with the ability to work on own initiative and as part of a busy team, with experience of delivering to strict deadlines
- Experience of month end processes and routines
- Experience of liaising regularly with senior staff and supporting them in carrying out their duties
- Excellent communication and inter-personal skills, comfortable with liaising with other teams and external parties
- High attention to detail and the ability to produce work to an excellent presentational standard
- Local authority accounting experience desirable
- Creative approach to problem solving
