Senior Food and Safety OfficerWest Midlands – Hybrid WorkingRate: Negotiable daily rates (Inside IR35)Duration: 3-6 months initially Are you a qualified and experienced Food and Safety professional looking to make a real impact? Our client is looking for a Senior Food and Safety Officer, to play a key role in safeguarding public health, ensuring compliance with food hygiene and safety regulations, and supporting businesses across the borough.

About the Role:

As part of the Food and Safety Team, you will:

  • Provide expert advice and guidance on food hygiene, food standards, and health & safety to businesses, consumers, and partner agencies
  • Conduct inspections, interventions, and investigations to ensure legal compliance
  • Investigate notifiable infectious diseases, food safety complaints, and workplace accidents
  • Take enforcement action, including issuing statutory notices and preparing legal reports
  • Work collaboratively with council teams, businesses, and external partners to ensure effective regulation
  • Maintain specialist knowledge in environmental health, food safety, and health & safety regulations

Essential Criteria:

To be successful, you will need:

  • A Degree or Diploma in Environmental Health or Higher Certificate in Food Premises Inspection
  • Further specialist qualification in Food or Health & Safety (e.g. MSc in Food Safety Hygiene & Management, NEBOSH)
  • Professional registration with the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health (CIEH)

Experience & Knowledge:

  • Experience providing advice on food safety and health & safety legislation
  • Experience conducting inspections and investigations to ensure legal compliance
  • Knowledge of legal processes, evidence gathering, and enforcement procedures
  • Experience working independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team
  • Specialist knowledge of a relevant subject area and current industry practices
