Overview: I am working with an international, award-winning digital agency that's looking to expand its development team with a talented Magento Back-End Developer. With offices in Staffordshire, UK, and Croatia, this agency works with some of the biggest global brands, including Sky, Jaguar, Disney, Halfords, Ministry of Sound, and the BBC, to name just a few.

This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced Magento Back-End Developer to join a cross-functional team working on innovative and high-impact eCommerce solutions. If you have strong Magento and Akeneo PIM experience and are passionate about developing robust and scalable solutions, this could be the perfect role for you.

About the Role: As a Magento Back-End Developer, you will play a key role in developing, maintaining, and optimizing Magento-based eCommerce platforms. You'll be working alongside front-end developers, other back-end developers, and project managers. You will report directly to the Development Director, contributing to the strategic direction of development initiatives and ensuring timely project delivery.

Experience in a small agency environment is highly advantageous, as the role requires adaptability, collaboration with clients, and the ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced setting.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and maintain custom Magento solutions for a wide range of high-profile clients.
  • Collaborate closely with front-end developers to integrate server-side logic with user-facing elements.
  • Optimize back-end infrastructure and Magento code for performance, scalability, and security.
  • Troubleshoot and maintain core product software and databases.
  • Develop API integrations, especially with Akeneo PIM (Product Information Management) systems.
  • Contribute to team knowledge sharing and code reviews.
  • Work directly with project managers to ensure projects are completed on time and to the highest standards.
  • Report to the Development Director, helping shape and implement development strategies.

Key Skills & Experience:

  • Proven experience as a Back-End Developer, with a strong focus on Magento (Magento 2 experience preferred).
  • Essential experience with Akeneo PIM and integrating PIM systems with eCommerce platforms.
  • Proficient in PHP, MySQL, and server-side technologies.
  • Solid knowledge of object-oriented programming and design patterns.
  • Familiarity with Git and version control systems.
  • Knowledge of web security best practices and optimization techniques.
  • Experience with REST APIs and third-party service integrations.
  • Experience in a small agency environment is a plus.
  • A team player who thrives in an agile, collaborative setting.

Desirable Skills:

  • Experience with AWS or cloud services.
  • Strong knowledge of Magento best practices and architecture.
  • Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines.
  • Basic knowledge of front-end technologies (HTML, CSS, JavaScript).
  • Familiarity with other eCommerce platforms like Shopify or WooCommerce is advantageous.
