Description & Background

At Hinkley Point C nuclear site, located in West Somerset, we are seeking a Commercial Director to join our Hinkley Point C operations. Reporting directly to the Operations Director (HPC), the Commercial Director is responsible for delivering all commercial and contractual aspects of the HPC contract, including but not limited to matters across the portfolio of contracts which encompass the master agreement, reporting, project controls (including planning), payments and finance.

We are an engineering and maintenance provider serving multiple industries including chemical, nuclear, oil & gas, pharmaceuticals, power, utilities, renewables, and food & beverage. We optimize asset efficiency, increase availability, and reduce maintenance costs through comprehensive lifecycle supportā€”from consulting and engineering to operations and decommissioning. With 4,500 skilled employees across 14 strategically located offices, we deliver excellence while maintaining the highest standards of safety, compliance, and quality.

Principal Responsibilities

  • Develop commercial strategy aligned with internal entities, establishing clear goals and targets
  • Provide NEC contract expertise to Bilfinger teams and lead client meetings to minimize exposure
  • Review and challenge project performance reports, validating financials and resolving underperformance
  • Implement standardized commercial reporting mechanisms and controls across contracts
  • Own dispute resolution and ensure timely clearance of Early Warning Notices and Compensation Events
  • Build, coach and develop the commercial team while participating actively in performance reviews
  • Validate commercial aspects of tenders and lead stakeholder management to mitigate financial losses
  • Conduct regular site visits while supporting other commercial directors to drive performance

Required Qualifications & Experience

  • Significant experience in commercial management within large-scale construction or engineering projects
  • Strong understanding of NEC contract terms and conditions
  • Experience in managing complex contractual disputes and negotiations
  • Track record of successful commercial leadership in major infrastructure projects
  • Experience in developing and implementing commercial strategies

  • More frequent travel required in first 6-9 months
