Technical Resolution Lead

Description & Background
At Hinkley Point C nuclear site, located in West Somerset, we're seeking a Technical Resolution Lead for General Mechanical and Electrical topics to join our Technical Directorate as part of the Joint Design Office (JDO) Technical Branch. Reporting to the Mechanical Technical Manager, you'll be a key member of the team providing resolution of critical emergent design issues that span several work areas. This role offers visibility across a wide variety of topics throughout the project with an open remit to solve technical issues and enhance the resilience of the JDO by mitigating key project risks relating to engineering. The successful candidate will ensure we continue to deliver technical excellence for the project while supporting our transition from predominantly Civil focused activities to Mechanical, Electrical, and HVAC focused issues with greater safety case implications.

Principal Responsibilities
• Provide oversight and approval of Nuclear Safety Category 3 changes
• Lead joint Task Forces for Nuclear Safety Category 2 changes
• Build relationships across JDO Operational Branch, Responsible Designer, Project Managers, Contract Managers and Construction/Installation Contractors
• Interface with Nuclear Services Engineering or HPC Design Authority where necessary
• Identify and implement initiatives to improve project delivery
• Participate in Configuration Management Board meetings
• Contribute to the reporting of JDO KPIs
• Proactively chase delivery and performance of others
• Attend and contribute to meetings when required
• Provide mentorship to the JDO Operational team where opportunities allow
• Manage and deliver technical solutions to emergent transverse works issues, primarily in Mechanical and Electrical engineering topics across several disciplines

Required Qualifications & Experience
• Degree in Engineering or other Science
• Demonstrable evidence of problem solving and stakeholder management
• Understanding of mechanical interfaces
• Good communication and presentation skills
• Ability to liaise with stakeholders across the wider business at various management levels
• Understanding of design models and engineering drawings

Essential Skills

• Understanding of individual level of knowledge and where to receive guidance
• Ability to work and act autonomously
• Pragmatic and practical approach to developing solutions
• Ability to resolve straightforward issues of low complexity/risk in own technical discipline autonomously

Desirable Experience
• Design experience or other project experience
• EPR building, plant and system knowledge
• Safety Case Knowledge and previous experience of Nuclear Safety Categorisations
• Experience of leading engineers in a management or lead setting
• Chartered Engineer or member of similar institute
• Previous experience working in the Nuclear Industry
