Interim HR Director

We are looking for a superb Interim HR Director to join a manufacturing organisation based in Somerset to cover a 7-10 month maternity leave.

A robust and ambitious company and people strategy has already been designed, and this role will be to to ensure that the strategy continues to be rolled out and to progress smoothly.

Reporting directly to the CFO and working closely with the executive team the primary remit of this role is to continue to deliver an innovative, value adding people strategy with the support of an established HR team of c. 20 people. Your internal clients will be diverse and demanding so you’ll need great relationship building skills to build rapport quickly and to advise, challenge and influence on all aspects of HR.

The company is an advocate of sustainability and green practices, so the person coming in must be passionate about this and able to evidence having similar values. Due to the nature of manufacturing and production workers being on site, although there is a degree of flexible working there is a preference for the Interim HRD to predominately work on site, in order to build strong relationships quickly and effectively manage the roll out of the people strategy. With that in mind we are looking for candidates who preferably live in Somerset, or Bristol or potentially Devon or possibly South Gloucestershire who are within an easy daily commute.

The Interim HR Director will have the opportunity to lead on all aspects of HR as follows:

  • Support the development of a high performing and goal driven company culture and lead the HR team to deliver the people plan and high standards of quality and productivity.
  • To ensure that all employees feel valued and that they are a significant part of the company’s journey.
  • Develop policies and initiatives that attract, motivate and retain talented and committed employees.
  • To work closely with the Executive Team to effectively roll out the hugely ambitious production and people strategy.
  • To manage the annual pay awards and lead the RemCom meeting next spring.
  • To manage the clear but still evolving plan for Learning and Development which will include making improvements in: Career Development; Improve on the learning culture; Better support early careers; Support the evolution of the HR team; supporting improved Well Being and Leadership development initiatives.

Person Specification

  • FCIPD or MCIPD qualified and of graduate calibre.
  • Must have in depth experience of working at HR Director level in a manufacturing or production environment.
  • A superb people manager, experienced in managing, motivating and developing a large HR team.
  • Able to translate strategic business initiatives into tactical HR activities.
  • Have the skills and credibility to effectively coach and advise the directors.
  • Passionate about sustainability and an advocate of supporting green practices.
  • Commercially oriented with the ability to leverage data and logic in support of making a business case.
  • A personable, skilled influencer, politically savvy, with the courage to challenge and also engage.
  • Collaborative with an enabling coaching style
  • A proactive approach to stakeholder engagement and experience of designing and delivering on innovative D.E.&I. initiatives.
  • Live preferably in Somerset, Bristol, or possibly Devon/South Gloucestershire in order to be within an easy daily commute of this super company.
