Mechanical Design Engineer

Role Overview:

We are seeking a skilled and motivated Mechanical Design Engineer to join our team. You will be responsible for creating and implementing temporary mechanical building services design solutions for the Hinkley 'C' Common Building Services. This role requires ensuring the integration, technical assurance, compliance, health, safety, and sustainability of design and engineering, enabling a compliant and defect-free handover for operational service delivered on programme and within budget.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement mechanical building services design solutions, including ventilation, LTHW, CHW & CWS piped services, and wastewater drainage.
  • Coordinate with the Principal Designer and Principal Contractor to ensure compliance with CDM requirements and ensure regular flow of information.
  • Produce and review design documentation including specifications, datasheets, calculations, schedules, and drawings.
  • Review and check vendor documents for mechanical compliance with project specifications.
  • Support the Design Manager in design/construction reviews and sign-offs.
  • Ensure design risks are considered, preparing design risk assessments and communicating residual risks.
  • Provide technical support and identify innovative and robust solutions.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with technical consultants and suppliers.

Key Deliverables:

  • Comprehensive design documentation including specifications, datasheets, calculations, schedules, and drawings.
  • Output from design/construction reviews.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Minimum HNC/HND in Mechanical Building Services.
  • Strong collaborative skills and ability to build relationships with other designers and project teams.
  • Effective communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Promotes innovation and continuous improvement in design.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, Teams, and SharePoint.
  • Competent in AutoCad Duct and Pipe systems design software, and AutoCad 2020 draughting software (desirable).
  • Detailed knowledge of codes of practice, including designer duties and responsibilities under CDM and other regulatory requirements.
