Job Title:
Field Engineer (Mechanical)

Description & Background:
At Hinkley Point C nuclear site, located in West Somerset, we're seeking a Mechanical Field Engineer to join our Site Quality Surveillance Team. The role involves carrying out surveillance on construction activities related to mechanical equipment installation, including static & rotating equipment, pipes, and pipe supports. You'll be responsible for ensuring contractor activities comply with Work Information requirements while supporting HPC's Nuclear Safety Culture.

Principal Responsibilities:

  • Perform surveillance of mechanical installations and construction activities
  • Check works compliance with specifications and report deviations/non-conformance
  • Monitor installation of pipework, tanks, vessels, HVAC, turbines, pumps, and heat exchangers
  • Verify alignment checks, torque control, and joint integrity
  • Ensure FME requirements and back out checks are met
  • Review and monitor Quality Inspection Records
  • Record and distribute findings to Construction and Quality teams
  • Contribute to KPI indicators and support quality improvement initiatives
  • Identify potential quality issues early to enable mitigating actions
  • Participate in meetings and provide constructive challenge to contractors

Required Qualifications & Experience:

  • Mechanical Engineering qualification or equivalent experience
  • Minimum 5 years' hands-on mechanical installation experience
  • Understanding of Quality Assurance Requirements (ISO9001)
  • Experience with mechanical equipment installation in large construction projects
  • Knowledge of technical specifications (BTS, BST, GQAS)
  • Understanding of NCRs/ITPs processes

Essential Skills:

  • Proficient with Outlook/Excel/SharePoint/Teams/PowerPoint
  • Strong attention to detail in checking work and materials
  • Excellent communication and reporting abilities
  • Ability to establish appropriate contractor relationships
  • Independent thinking while maintaining diplomatic approach
  • French language knowledge advantageous

Salary, Location & Details:

  • 75% site-based, 25% office-based at Hinkley Point C
  • Long Term, Full-time position
  • £360 PAYE to £485 UMBRELLA per day
