Job Title:
Field Engineer (Welding Inspector)

Description & Background:
As part of the surveillance team at Hinkley Point C, the Field Engineer/Welding Inspector plays a crucial role in ensuring activities are performed according to the Contractor's Work Information. This position involves delivering Team Lead duties while maintaining HPC Quality standards at one of the nation's key infrastructure projects. The role requires advocating Nuclear Safety Culture and embedding this approach across all project activities.

Principal Responsibilities:

  • Perform surveillance on Works Contractors' activities including continuous, notified, and planned surveillance
  • Check works compliance with contract specifications and report non-conformance
  • Monitor and review Quality Inspection Records before works are covered
  • Conduct documentation checks and review technical specifications
  • Proactively identify potential quality issues and enable mitigating actions
  • Record and report findings to Construction and Quality teams
  • Review contractor performance against Quality Control Plans
  • Attend and contribute to meetings, challenging contractors when necessary
  • Ensure design decisions follow formal approval processes
  • Maintain comprehensive understanding of construction drawings and Quality Control Plans

Required Qualifications & Experience:

  • CSWIP 3.1 Welding Inspector minimum (3.2 Senior Welding Inspector preferred)
  • PCN NDT qualifications (PT, MT, UT)
  • Mechanical Engineering, Materials, or Welding qualifications
  • Working knowledge of British & European standards (RCC-M, BS EN, ASME)
  • Experience in weld inspection on large construction projects
  • Knowledge of Quality Management practices and processes

Essential Skills & Technical Knowledge:

  • Expertise in pipework, tanks/vessels, steelwork, and heat exchangers
  • Understanding of specifications (BTS, BST, ISO9001, GQAS)
  • Strong knowledge of NCRs/ITPs processes
  • Proficient with Outlook/Excel/SharePoint/Teams/PowerPoint
  • Experience with inspection documentation (ITPs, End of Erection Status Reports)
  • Excellent communication and reporting skills
  • French language knowledge advantageous

Salary, Location & Details:

  • 75% site-based, 25% office-based at Hinkley Point C
  • Long term, Full-time position
  • £385 PAYE to £520 UMBRELLA per day
