Job Title:
Chemical Safety and CoSHH Advisor

Description & Background:
We're seeking a skilled Chemical Safety and CoSHH Advisor to join the Hinkley Point C project, one of Europe's largest construction sites. You'll provide high-quality technical advice on chemical management, supporting safety, health, fire, and environment functions. This role offers a unique opportunity to contribute to the site's transition to COMAH regulation as the power station approaches commissioning.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage and assure site chemical inventory for regulatory compliance
  • Develop safe chemical storage arrangements for COMAH site operations
  • Assess contractor requests for new chemical products
  • Coach contract partners to meet HPC's high chemical safety standards
  • Identify hazards requiring additional mitigation measures
  • Support implementation of improved chemical management systems
  • Provide technical advice to emergency response teams
  • Help develop Chemical Management Community of Best Practice
  • Support specialists in risk assessment and mitigation strategies

Experience Required:

  • Degree or equivalent in chemistry or similar discipline
  • Formal training in chemical risk assessment (at least P304)
  • Experience managing chemicals on busy sites
  • Strong presentation and communication skills
  • Ability to work effectively in challenging situations
  • Excellent organizational and multi-tasking abilities
  • Broad knowledge of chemical hazards and mitigation
  • Understanding of relevant regulations and guidance

Desirable Qualifications:

  • Experience in construction environments
  • Knowledge of waste classification and hazardous waste management
  • Environmental management and toxicology assessment experience
  • DSEAR assessment experience
  • Process safety background
  • Proficiency in workflow management software, PowerBI and GIS
  • HAZMAT spill and environmental emergency response expertise

Salary, Hours and Location:
