We are currently seeking dedicated, compassionate, and skilled individuals to join our team in special schools that support children with SEMH needs across the area.Positions Available:

  • Full-Time & Part-Time Teaching Roles in Special Schools Supporting SEMH Students

About the Role:As a teacher in a special school setting, you will be working with students who have a range of Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. These students may face significant challenges in their emotional and social development, and your role will be to create an inclusive, supportive, and safe environment that allows them to thrive. You will work closely with a dedicated team of teachers, therapists, and support staff to deliver tailored learning strategies and support students' emotional wellbeing.Types of SEMH Needs You Will Support:Students in these special schools may have a variety of SEMH challenges, including:

  • Anxiety and Trauma: Helping students who have experienced past trauma or suffer from severe anxiety to manage their emotions and feel safe in a school environment.
  • Behavioural Challenges: Supporting students who exhibit disruptive or challenging behaviour due to underlying emotional needs.
  • Social Interaction Difficulties: Working with students who struggle with peer relationships and social interactions.
  • Self-Regulation Issues: Supporting students with difficulties in managing their emotions, behaviour, and impulse control.
  • Low Self-Esteem & Confidence: Helping students build resilience, self-confidence, and emotional stability in both academic and social settings.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver lessons tailored to meet the unique social, emotional, and academic needs of students with SEMH.
  • Provide one-to-one or small group support for students, helping them build coping mechanisms and manage their emotions.
  • Work closely with other staff to create individualised learning plans that cater to each student's specific SEMH needs.
  • Foster a safe, supportive, and inclusive classroom environment that promotes positive behaviour and emotional wellbeing.
  • Monitor student progress and provide feedback to parents and colleagues to support emotional and academic development.
  • Collaborate with support staff, including teaching assistants and mental health professionals, to address and meet the needs of each student.

  • Patience & Empathy: Understanding the emotional and social challenges students with SEMH face and offering compassionate support.
  • Behaviour Management: Experience with strategies for managing challenging behaviour, setting clear boundaries, and encouraging positive social interactions.
  • Emotional Resilience: Ability to stay calm under pressure and provide emotional support to students who may struggle with self-regulation.
  • Adaptability: Ability to tailor teaching approaches to meet the diverse needs of students and adjust to changing circumstances.
  • Communication Skills: Strong communication skills to effectively work with students, parents, and colleagues.
  • Problem-Solving: Creative and flexible thinking to support students' emotional and academic development in ways that work best for them.
  • Collaboration: Ability to work closely with other educators, mental health professionals, and support staff to ensure students' success.

Ideal Candidates Will Have:

  • Experience teaching or supporting students with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs or a strong interest in doing so
  • A patient, empathetic, and flexible approach to working with students facing emotional and social challenges
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to work well as part of a team
  • Experience in a special school or SEMH setting is highly desirable.
  • A relevant teaching qualification (e.g., PGCE, QTS) or equivalent, though those with experience in a support role may also be considered
  • A passion for making a positive impact on the lives of students with SEMH needs
