Purpose of Role:

A Production Engineer delivers support and resource to develop and deliver robust manufacturing processes into the component manufacturing teams.  Scoping from initial DFM right through to delivery of customer orders.

The primary objective of the role is to produce detailed planning that conforms to customer requirements, including

sole responsibility to design and prove out the optimal processes to deliver right first-time service to the component

manufacturing teams. Other key areas of the role are listed below in Duties and responsibilities

Achieving all these will require competent and experienced knowledge within the precision engineering environment

supported by the use of the DMAIC Greenbelt and Lean Problem-solving tools as a toolkit to achieve RFT, Best in Class

operational excellence. The client  is committed to personal development and successful deployment of your technical

skillset, which will in turn translate to close collaboration with numerous key business teams, such as operation support, Component Teams ,estimating, purchasing and sales. (Note this also may extend to include sub-contractors and machine tool suppliers also)

The current component engineering team works closely with the operational teams and commercial teams. Each

component production engineer must be able to communicate across all functions within the business providing

constructive and objective input to achieve the best possible output for the business and our customer base.

Training and development of the wider production engineering team; which is deemed as a critical business area results in the requirement for each production engineer to showcase willingness to support and enhance the skill set of the team as appropriate. Your support in this may be required alongside the duties and responsibilities listed below.

A production engineer must maintain a strong commitment to the company’s blue book principles, they must respect

the current procedures and policies in place and adopt a flexible approach to adopting new manufacturing techniques

and developments. Regular team meetings are held to allow feedback to be given on enhancing current procedures and processes in which any production engineers input is valid and encouraged.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Adherence to the Production Engineering procedures and documentation. (QP0008)
  • Ensure products are manufactured efficiently and to customer specification.
  • Must be able to read engineering drawings and be able to use 3D design software, Solidworks preferable
  • Outline method creation to support customer enquiries and estimating, (inc material quotations and sub-contractor quotations and visits)
  • Working with supply chain to develop new and existing processes.
  • Create NC programs using CAM software for specific applications. (note more than one discipline may be required)
  • Design and create Tooling to assist in the manufacture of complex production parts.
  • Method plan for the Tooling manufacture (in house)
  • Conduct risk assessments of new processes as part of project delivery. (where applicable)
  • Comply with Health, Safety and Environmental policies.
  • Drive improvement activities using application of DMAIC and Lean problem-solving skills.
  • Drive the RFT, Best in Class functional excellence of the production engineering team.
  • Deploy best in class Production Engineering technical skill sets.
  • Help develop and maintain standard operating procedures.
  • To maintain an up-to-date knowledge of technological advancements for manufacturing development which supports the lifespan of component routing ownership. (Note visits such as MACH, AMB, EMO may be requested that you attend with notice)
  • Build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Develop RFT, agile, efficient cost reducing processes and systems, procedures, methodology, knowledge, and training material.
  • Contribute to new business initiatives and projects and review and communicate their impact on manufacturing activities.
  • Contribute to Component Manufacturing Strategy & Vision to deliver Best in Class outcomes for the Company to meet overall company strategy.
  • Strive to increase throughput via efficient and effective processes.
  • Introduce best practice to drive reduction in repeating NCRs.
  • Have ownership of robust NCR response and closure.
  • Have ownership of change requests relating to any activity inside of QP008
  • Understand and review detailed customer specifications and apply to live current manufacturing methods in a timely manner.
