My client based in Brighton are looking to recruit a Network Engineer for their internal team.
Purpose of the role
To provide network expertise for the effective and secure operation and development of the IT networks. To provide advice and to support members of the university and external agencies in the use, maintenance and enhancement of the network.
Main areas of responsibility:
- To use knowledge of the IT network, to monitor, proactively detect and resolve issues and to work with colleagues and external agencies to investigate and resolve issues escalated due to technical or specialist requirements.
- To administer the passive and active equipment which comprises the IT network, specifically the network cabling, switches, routers, security systems and other related hardware and software.
- To provide technical advice to colleagues and external agencies in the use and operation of the IT network, including fault diagnosis, IT equipment installation, maintenance and configuration .
- To plan, advise, prioritise, and implement limited IT network projects and new service development as required, liaising with colleagues throughout the business and external suppliers in order to achieve this.
- To regularly review processes and systems and make technical recommendations for improvements and resolutions to ensure efficient operation of and to improve the IT network and its services.
- To maintain and improve service delivery standards by developing, reviewing and updating operational procedures and documentation.
Experience sought:
- At least 1 years’ experience in networking.
- An understanding of switches, routers, LAN and WAN
- Understanding of wireless technologies
- Ability to prioritise tasks and escalate competing requests for attention
- Be responsive to customer needs and demonstrate a tenacity to see a requirement through to a satisfactory resolution
- Self-motivated desire to learn i.e.by book, practical work, observation, formal training and initiative
