Role Summary

This is an exciting time to join a busy rail company as a Depot Manager.

As a Depot Manager you will support the operations & maintenance of multiple operational rolling stock fleets ensuring fleet readiness, safety, performance & reliability. This will include the management of all depot activities and depot safety. This includes staff training & competence management, fleet maintenance & train care activities, depot safety, facilities maintenance, depot movements and supporting & enabling the fleet technical team within the depot.

The role

  • You will manage maintenance schedules and all related people management across multiple shifts, teams and projects within the maintenance depot.
  • You will act as a point of contact for colleagues within the wider engineering, operations and service delivery departments.
  • You will ensure that all work carried out on the fleet meets the required standards and is carried out safely and efficiently.
  • You will be ultimately responsible for the quality of work and personal safety of all workers within the depot environment.
  • You will contribute to the training and development of the depot teams to maintain a highly efficient, motivated and safety conscious workforce.

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Engineering background – minimum level 3 within any engineering discipline, additional management, HSEQ or rail qualifications / training or courses would be highly desirable
  • Experience in the rail sector is desirable, however we welcome applicants from any heavy engineering, production or transportation industry especially candidates from automotive, marine/maritime, military, aviation or similar heavy maintenance backgrounds
  • Ability to lead a team in a time pressured, safety critical environment
  • Experience of leading a large, diverse multi-disciplinary team with different experiences, skills and needs
  • Strong demonstrable workforce planning and scheduling experience
  • Ability to foster a positive and inclusive working culture to get the best out of each employee and support people development and continual improvement
