Your new companyGovernment organisation in Bristol.Your new roleThe organisation are looking for a COS VAT Analyst to join on an ongoing temporary to permanent basis. Pay for the role is £19.93 per hour + holiday. This is a remote role.

  • You will report directly to the Tax Accountant in the National Finance Team and assist in key areas such as Contract-Out-Services (COS VAT).
  • You will need to acquire an understanding of commercial/non-business/exempt activities from a VAT perspective and apply this knowledge to the monthly transactions coded to COS.
  • You will need to quickly decide which transactions require further investigation by contacting other districts.
  • Running the necessary reports from finance systems to reconcile transactions which have been coded inside the scope of CIS to produce the monthly contractor, CIS returns to HMRC in a timely manner.
  • Ad-hoc finance support to the Tax Accountant

What you'll need to succeed

  • A solid background in accounting and a thorough understanding of double entry bookkeeping is essential. Previous experience with producing journals is also a requirement.
  • Be part-qualified or currently studying for ACCA/CIMA or fully qualified for AAT.
  • Be proficient in using Microsoft Outlook, Teams and Excel, including being able to create Pivot Tables.
  • Previous experience with dealing with VAT such as VAT returns is also desirable.
  • Be enthusiastic about learning about new areas of tax.
  • Be able to work on own initiative with little guidance.
  • Experience in the Construction Industry Scheme (CIS) is preferable but not essential.
  • A good level of communication skills includes writing concise and clear emails to various internal stakeholders.
