This permanent role involves coordinating and supervising projects, managing production staff, and ensuring that all tasks are completed safely, on time, and within budget. The Works Manager will work closely with the General Manager, Fabrication Manager, and other team members to oversee the daily operations, monitor progress, and ensure compliance with company policies and legal regulations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee jobs and projects from initiation to completion, supervising production staff and subcontractors to ensure quality, safety, and timely delivery
- Prepare and manage projects from the quotation stage, tracking performance against budgeted hours, materials, and subcontracted work
- Maintain excellent customer relations, striving to achieve positive feedback and a loyal client base
- Be available via telephone and email to respond to the emergency/responsive nature of the business
- Assist the General Manager in acquiring new business and sales to meet annual targets
- Monitor and procure consumables, plant, and materials to ensure job continuity
- Ensure proper housekeeping and organisation standards at all work areas on site
- Travel to customer sites for surveys and assist in the quotation process for projects
- Ensure all health, safety, and quality documentation is prepared and understood before work commences
- Complete and retain lifetime quality records (LTQRs) to form quality packs upon job completion
- Perform other duties as needed to meet company objectives
Job Requirements:
- Strong spoken and written English communication skills
- Positive attitude when dealing with colleagues, customers, and tasks
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Internet, and Email
- IOSH Managing Safely qualification preferred
- Experience in the marine or civil engineering industry
- Willingness to travel for business needs
- Full UK driving licence
- Strong organisational skills
- Ability to interpret technical drawings, schematic parts manuals, and diagrams
- Relevant management experience
- Ability to work well as part of a team and motivate staff
Safety Responsibilities:
- Ensure all employees work safely and comply with health, safety, and environmental legislation
- Implement safe working procedures as per company policies
- Monitor and update staff training needs, ensuring appropriate training for all tasks
- Ensure timely reporting of accidents, incidents, and near misses with accurate completion of the accident book
