About the role: 

Overseeing the technical aspects of Reporting & BI Solutions within our Technology team, you will provide robust reporting capabilities to the business, across Commercial, Operations and Finance.  As a Lead Data Engineer, you will also lead the development, maintenance, support, and integration of our expanding array of data sources into Azure-hosted SQL data warehouse and Power BI.  

Using your deep understanding of data structure, analysis, modelling, and management, you’ll drive our technical agenda and data roadmap focusing on designing and enhancing the data platform primarily using Azure cloud technologies like ADF, Azure Synapse Analytics, and Power BI Premium features.  This is an exciting time to join us at Harding+, as we continue to experience ongoing growth, meaning continual enhancement of our dataset, analysis and reporting capabilities are at the forefront of our technological roadmap.  

Based in Avonmouth on a hybrid working basis – 2-3 days in office per week. 

Compensation – competitive salary, bonus scheme, pension, 4 x life assurance, healthcare, 25 days leave annually (including Christmas shutdown) 

What you will be doing: 

Data Warehouse Optimisation 

  • Analyse, optimize and refactor existing stored procedures and ETL jobs to improve performance  
  • Enhance the efficiency of current systems  
  • Review and maintain scheduling of data jobs to ensure timeliness and reliability  
  • Implement data quality checks and governance  
  • Provide ongoing support for the existing data platform 

Migration Leadership & Futureproofing 

  • Lead and execute the long-term migration of our cloud migration strategy 
  • Build scalable ETL processes and develop pipelines 
  • Design and implement Azure-based data architecture 

End-User Reporting & Analytics 

  • Lead optimisation efforts in Power BI utilising Premium features  
  • Write advanced DAX and perform complex data modelling to support high quality, dynamic reporting 
  • Empower stakeholders and encourage a self serve BI model  

About you: 

  • Extensive Data Warehouse expertise – optimisation and maintenance of on-premises SQL Server data warehouses
  • Advanced SQL and Python knowledge 
  • Azure Cloud proficiency – knowledge of tools such as Azure  Synapse Analytics, Azure Data Lake, Azure Data Factory and Logic Apps 
  • Experience with ETL tools for creating, optimising, and maintaining data pipelines 
  • Skilled in Power BI Premium, including data modelling, DAX, performance tuning and advanced reporting features 
  • Strong knowledge of data governance and best practice 
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to communicate technical ideas clearly to non-technical audiences across the business  
  • Willingness to share ideas and play a key role in supporting change, ideally with experience working with Agile methodologies 
  • Experience in retail environments would be highly advantageous 
  • Must have an existing right of eligibility to work in the UK
